 Department Overview

The Department of Orthodontics is situated in the first floor of the dental teaching college & hospital with a Clinical Section, Seminar Room, Laboratory, Computer Section, Photography, Records Room, Post Graduate Students’ room and Offices for the faculty.

The Department is well equipped & today stands proud featuring state of art facilities, sophisticated gadgets and high quality materials in a refined operational ambience with 30 Dental chairs units and has all the laboratory equipments and materials required for various purposes such as Vacuum Molding Unit, Archmate, Electropolishing device, Hydrosolder, Light curing Units, Welders etc.

The department has the latest versions of imaging softwares namely the Dolphin Imaging system procured from the USA, to aid in diagnosis, treatment planning, cepahlometric analysis and treatment prediction.

 Academics

  • The formal undergraduate training program commences in the 3rd year B.D.S. with lectures and practical exercises, and continues to final year – two years. During the one month clinical posting, students have the opportunity of examining the patient, arrive at a diagnosis with the aid of Models and Radiographs, and plan suitable treatment.
  • The Post Graduate training program is of three years duration starting with preclinical work including Typodont exercises of Begg, Pre-Adjusted Edgewise (PEA),Tip-edge, lingual appliances, Cephalometrics, Model analysis and clinical photography, followed by treatment of patients presenting with various malocclusions under supervision of highly qualified faculty. Regular seminars and Journal Club Reviews is an essential part of the training program. The trainees are encouraged to attend the National Specialty Conference & Conventions in Orthodontics and present papers and posters. Many students have won awards for the papers presented in the National Conferences. The P.G. Students are required to prepare a dissertation as a partial fulfillment of MDS requirements.
  • The Department conducts several Workshops/courses and other academic meets every year.
